Following Organic Practice

Now that the vines are in full bud burst at Bald Hills the important task of spraying with fungicide has commenced and will continue throughout the growing season, every two weeks.

The sulphur spray used protects all parts of the vine from the extremely damaging powdery mildew. Not only the fruit can be affected, but also leaves and stems. Spores can over-winter beneath the bark and even in the newly developing buds for growth in the following season.

Sulphur is approved for use on organic vineyards and while Bald Hills is not “organic” as such, it adheres to the practices approved within the organic organisations and is accredited sustainable by NZWG
