Here is what he had to day about our Pigeon Rocks Central Otago Pinto Gris
Bald Hills ‘Pigeon Rocks’ Central Otago Pinot Gris 2010 ****
Fruit from 1 ha of vines near a rocky cliff nested by pigeons. Cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 14.0% alc. and 5 g/L rs, the wine undergoing batonnage. Winemaker: Christopher Keys. Full, even, pale straw yellow colour with some green hues. This has a fresh and steely nose with pure citrus and white stonefruit aromas along with secondary earth and toasty elements, revealing minerally nuances. Off-dry to taste, the palate is fulsome with good weight and presence, the body supported by good alcoholic power. The fruit flavours are somewhat restrained, showing white stonefruits and minerals, enlivened by balanced acidity. The wine is smooth with freshness and tension and the palate leads to a moderately sustained finish with open aromatics. This is a full-bodied dryish Pinot Gris with some power, and restrained fruitiness. Serve with Mediterranean fare over the next 3-4 years.
