Raymond is a highly respected wine advisor in the New Zealand wine scene with over two decades of wine judging, retailing and writing experience.
Here is what he had to day about our Single Vinyard Pinot Noir 2012
Bald Hills ‘Single Vineyard’ Bannockburn Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012 *****
Dark ruby-red with good depth and some purple hues, lighter on rim. The nose is fine and intensely penetrating with aromas of dark red berry fruits, cherry liqueur and red liquorice. Fragrant herb and spice notes are interwoven with a hint of resinous oak, and ethereal red florals unfolding to provide very fine layers of detail. Medium-full bodied, the flavours of dark red cherries, liquorices, spices and oak show with a degree of richness and succulence. The fruit is balanced by excellent tannin extraction and fine dry textures, and the restrained acidity allows the flavours to softly blossom. This has good drive and the flavours carry through to a long, lingering spicy cherry fruited finish. This is a Pinot Noir with well-balanced fruit richness and texture, providing real presence and length. Match with lamb and beef dishes over the next 5-7+ years. Around 75% clone 5 and the remainder 10/5 and 115, destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in one-third new French oak barriques. Winemaker: Peter Bartle.
